Treviso, Santa Caterina Museum

A unique journey that brings together over 60 masterpieces from the prestigious Toledo Museum of Art to the city, with a total value of over one billion euro. Treviso is the only European stop on an international tour: a unique opportunity to admire works by Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Cézanne, Matisse, and many other protagonists of modern art. 

Thanks to the temporary closure of the American Museum for significant modernisation and expansion works, unmatched works of art arrive in the city that leave the Museum for the first time and that, once this tour is over, can only be admired by going to Ohio, given the difficulty of artistic loans. This is, in a nutshell, a cultural event capable of breaking down barriers and creating authentic connections between people.

Many of the artists on display have been chosen by the curator, Marco Goldin. The exhibition looks back at the history of art, starting with the American abstraction of the second half of the twentieth century, from Richard Diebenkorn to Morris Louis, from Ad Reinhardt to Helen Frankenthaler, to then move on to some critical works of European abstraction, from Ben Nicholson and Josef Albers to Piet Mondrian and Paul Klee, to then explore the transition from the 1900s to the 1800s and then the three major themes: still life, figures and portraits, landscapes.

Visitors will see works by Morandi, Georges Braque, Henri Fantin-Latour, Camille Pissarro, Matisse, Bonnard, and Vuillard, to reach De Chirico and Modigliani and a splendid Cubist Picasso from 1909.

A long-awaited exhibition, in which public and private sectors have come together, united by the awareness that culture enhances human values and, at the same time, can be an extraordinary driving force for the economy.
