The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are an opportunity to reflect on the present while looking to the future. Such a proactive look focuses on objectives and ambitions as a legacy of the Games.
Among the most ambitious objectives are all the initiatives designed, planned and launched to promote a more accessible society; a more inclusive society; a society free of barriers.
These initiatives involve various tangible and intangible areas and sectors: sports facilities, roads, railways, means of transport, hotels, restaurants, public spaces/rooms, information channels, cultural programmes and initiatives, to name but a few.
Precisely in the perspective of inclusivity, a multiplicity of people with their lives and culture are of interest, whether they be athletes, workers, spectators, tourists or local residents.

The Games can offer full participation and a fulfilling experience for everyone, without barriers. They can leave a positive material and immaterial legacy in the Veneto Region and in the Venetian municipalities involved in the Games in order to enjoy, at the end of the Games, a ‘Legacy’ that is sustainable from social, cultural, economic and environmental points of view. They can be a source of inspiration for all other Venetian cities and places that want to open up towards universal accessibility.
The Veneto Region therefore strongly wished to plan sustainable, accessible and inclusive structures-services-events through actions, plans, processes and projects focused on these objectives.

This approach includes the project for the drafting of the "Guidelines for accessibility and inclusiveness at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan - Cortina 2026".
The purpose of these Guidelines is to: analyse the principles of accessibility and universal inclusion before suggesting strategies and actions to make game venues inclusive and accessible to all involved. The guidelines go beyond the application of the standard or the definition of a technical requirement: they strengthen our effort to promote continuous improvement, in the awareness that universal accessibility and inclusiveness are not simply a goal, but a path to be followed step by step, day by day.
