THE MILANO CORTINA 2026 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES WILL WRITE A NEW CHAPTER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WINTER GAMES

Testo Homepage

The Veneto Region, and specifically Cortina d'Ampezzo, is once again hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, 70 years after the 1956 Winter Games, which were the first to be broadcast across Europe. The city of Verona, with the Roman amphitheatre of the Arena, will then host the closing ceremony of the Games.
Sport (and in particular the Olympic and Paralympic winter sports hosted in the Veneto region), Sustainability (environmental, social and energy), and Accessibility (in the sense of social inclusion) constitute the fundamental pillars of the new vision of the Games, which also pursue the objective of producing a Legacy of long-term value for host cities and communities in the post-Games period.
On 24 June 2019, during the General Assembly of the International Olympic Committee meeting in Lausanne, the joint candidacy of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo was awarded (by a wide margin) the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to be held in 2026. A decisive factor in the success of the Italian proposal over that of the competitors was the important synergy demonstrated by all the parties involved: primarily public institutions, but also sports associations, athletes and the business world.
The organisation, promotion and communication of sports and cultural events related to the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are the responsibility of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, established on 9 December 2019.
