The Veneto Region is a partner in the European rescEU-CBRN-DSIM-IT project promoted by the European Civil Protection Mechanism in order to improve the capacity to respond to NBCR risks.
The project will develop an innovative competence composed of highly specialised personnel and a total of 11 vehicles, including detection means, mobile laboratories and logistical support. The vehicles will be equipped with the most advanced technologies in the sector, to position the EU at the forefront of global efforts to protect citizens, infrastructure and the environment in the event of accidents or deliberate actions that include the use of chemical and biological agents, radiological sources or nuclear devices. The funding will also allow the creation of a stable logistics base for the vehicle fleet in Milan, at a station of the National Fire Brigade, and a highly innovative training area under the responsibility of Fondazione SAFE, at the former Calvarina base in Roncà (Verona).
The modular capacity developed by the project consortium will be tested in a real environment in the Veneto Region with deployment in the context of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It will then be managed operationally, even after the end of the three-year duration, by the National Fire Brigade for future mobilisation.
